Nearly ten years ago, I left my corporate fashion job to work for what was then a small home decor startup in Texas, The Citizenry. I traveled to Morocco twice that year to work on a collection focused on the artistry and craftsmanship of the country.
I learned so much on those first trips, and it was a wild ride. From designing pillow layouts in the back of a moving van, hiking up a mountain in the High Atlas, waking up to the call to prayer the next morning, meeting and learning from so many incredible artisans, problem-solving furniture construction and leather tanning on my first solo work trip, and many more unforgettable moments.
With the recent 2016 era trend, I couldn’t help but dedicate an archive post to this pivotal moment in my career. It’s a reminder of how grateful I am for the opportunities I’ve had to travel and collaborate with talented makers around the world.
